OFCOM Application

If you are needing a "pool" of 10,000 or more numbers, numberhosting is the most cost-effective way of acheiving this. (For smaller allocations, eg up to 500 numbers, please see our range of number API's proving access to a pool of over 12 million aql number.

The first step in to obtain your numbers from OFCOM. aql offer a low cost consultancy and training service to advise you through your OFCOM application. OFCOM do not make a charge for numbering, but they do expect that the applicant is conversant with the process and that they are aware of their responsibilities as a Provider of an Electronic Commmunications Service.

Specialist numbering - Numbering such as Mobile or Pager numbering can be applied for where a justification can be made. aql can advise on the best possible presentation of your case and requirements, to facilitate a smooth process.

Voice Datafill

Once numbering has been applied for and granted (a process taking typically one to three weeks), the numbers then need to be announced to the other telecommunications operators. This process is called datafill.

aql conduct the datafill process on your behalf and liaise with the fixed and mobile operators to acheive a datafill start-point whereby numbers will be ready to use. (note - in some instances not all operators will support the calling of numbers for many months).

Termination Fees

Certain number ranges (eg 0844, 070, 07mobile) have an option of several pricepoints. We can advise on the best strategy for creating a pricepoint which will allow a cost-recovery operation of your telecommunications service.

SMS Datafill

In addition to Voice Datafill, aql also operate an SMS Datafill service. This is a mechanism via which the UK mobile network operators are informed as to the routing path for any text messages destined to fixed line geographic numbers. This is an independant process which can be operated in parallel with Voice Datafill to provide fully converged services (note - SMS datafill can only be acheived on UK Geographic numbering).
