aql has always strived to support true convergence. aql is both an award winning mobile messaging aggregator and also an innovative wholesale telecommunications operator.

aql provides wholesale "hosting" to over 40 million UK numbers on behalf of the UK broadband voice (VoIP) industry. aql operate a multi-site PSTN switching architecture. Behind this carrier-grade TDM network lies a robust, extensively peered, layer 2 network.

The purpose of the SMS relay product is to "enable" SMS capability on UK geographic (fixed line) numbering.

aql operate and deliver this service in two ways :

• Enabled on aql geographic numbers, which can be provisioned and provided wholesale over the aql numbering api
• Carrier-to-Carrier - aql can "enable" a carriers entire Ofcom number allocation and deliver the SMS to that carrier for onward routing

How it Works

The routing of mobile messaging traffic to landline networks is a legacy arrangement between the UK Mobile Network Operators (MNO's) and the UK fixed line operators. aql operate routing plaforms at strategic traffic pinchpoints to intercept and route the message traffic.

Because this intercept operates only at the messaging layer (MAP/TCAP), there is no requirement to make any changes to voice traffic routing as aql can intercept and divert the messaging traffic without any need for involvement in the voice routing layer.
