Senior Network Engineer & 3rd Line Support

aql are a fast paced, rapidly growing and award winning telecommunications company based in Leeds city centre. We handle communications for many UK ISPs and both product and customer base is widening.

 

We are currently looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and adaptable Senior Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure & support team in our Leeds city centre offices.

 

You will be responsible for troubleshooting and diagnosing network related issues as well as expanding the network of and where applicable re-configuring networking equipment based on provided specification.

 

You will need to have a deep understanding and knowledge of the following technologies:

  • Network provisioning/Addressing (IPv4 & IPv6)
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Routing (BGP, iBGP, OSPF, IS-IS) on Cisco, Juniper and/or Brocade hardware
  • Switching (VLAN, STP, MPLS, LACP) on Cisco, Juniper and/or Brocade hardware
  • Firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Linux/*BSD)
  • VPNs SSL/IPSec (Cisco, Juniper, Linux)

 

Knowledge of Linux systems and VOIP Platforms running on Linux would be highly advantageous. Experience working in a Carrier or Service Provider environment is desirable but not absolutely necessary.

 

You'll have a 'can do' attitude and be able to show initiative and the acumen to learn quickly. You'll be working in an energetic, fast paced environment with early responsibility. You will be interacting with our customers, suppliers, contractors, team members, senior management and directors and therefore excellent communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines and flexible hours are essential.

2nd Line Service Desk Manager

aql are a fast paced, rapidly growing and award winning telecommunications company based in Leeds city centre.

We handle communications for over 35,000 clients and both our product and customer base is widening. Our key market segments include Mobile messaging, Wholesale voice, wholesale fax, 3g data MVNE and colocation in our 3 city centre data centres.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and adaptable 2nd Line Support engineer and Service Desk Manager to join our established support team in our Leeds city Offices. This is a full time, permanent position.

To support our core products you will need experience/knowledge of:

  • Internet services (POP3, Hosting, DNS)
  • VoIP Protocols (SIP, SER, Asterisk)
  • Unix/Linux
  • Text Messaging (building SMS gateways, MMS, WapPush, Shortcodes)
  • Customer Support
  • Interacting with major UK mobile networks
  • Building and maintaining webpages
  • mysql and odbc databases alongside
  • Understanding of: SMS, data, IP and domain related services

As Service Desk Manager and Line Manager to the first and 2nd line support team you will need:

  • IT Service Management experience in a customer & Supplier environment with working knowledge of the ITIL framework; Incident, Request, Access, Problem, escalation, Change and Release Management

  • Previous management/supervision experience of people or teams

  • Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues

  • Knowledge of Incident / Problem Management and escalation

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills

  • A clear understanding of how to prioritise and delegate effectively

  • A willing and can do attitude

  • To be customer focused, able to handle escalations and an eye for detail

  • Exceptional organisational skills

  • To show initiative

  • Patience and understanding of situations – an ability to look at the bigger picture

  • To conduct performance appraisals for the team, identifying weaknesses and offering coaching and mentoring in areas that require it.

  • Facilitate training and staff development
    Maintain and improve personal knowledge of the products and services required to deliver the expected level of technical competency.

You must be able to pass full Security Clearance, and have the right to work in the UK for the next 5 years.

 

PHP Developer

aql are looking for a PHP developer to join our development team at our Leeds city centre headquarters.

The role

You will be working on a variety of projects both in-house and for customers. There will be a mixture of web applications, RESTful APIs, command-line scripts and services. You will be working for the most part on new developments, although we also have numerous legacy systems that require maintenance.

About you

The ideal candidate will:

  • have solid object-oriented PHP skills with a minimum of 3 years experience

  • have strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • be a self starter, willing and able to learn new skills and technologies

  • be a good communicator and team player

And have experience with at least two of the following:

  • Symfony 2 / Doctrine

  • knowledge of the OSI model and networking protocols

  • JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX

  • unit testing

  • API design

  • Agile and Scrum

  • other programming languages such as c, PERL, Python, Java, etc.

  • Ability to build rapport and maintain great relations with customers.
  • Highly organised with great organisation skills.
  • Some experience in business to business account management would be preferred but not essential if candidate can demonstrate great customer service and care experience.
  • Full UK driving licence.

You must be able to pass a full Security Clearance vet.
